Description
Available for immediate purchase is this c. 1800's Antique Geometric Hooked Rug. This astounding work of art was created with the qualities of harmony and order that were translated into the design of articles similar to styles of the Shaker and Pennsylvania German communities. Rug is distinguished by simplicity of form, harmonious relationship of parts, good workmanship, and utility. The eye catching hooked rug with a geometric design forming three large repetitive diamonds or triangles shades are quintessential of this time period. This is a lovely wool rug in fabulous condition, that would make a statement in any room of the home, and would be the focal point as a vertical art piece. The time, devotion, and meticulous work it would have taken to create this stunning work of art is simply far too great to contemplate. The muted colors represent today's exceedingly sought after color palette of folk art genre. Purchased from a reputable Auction Company and previous owner purchased this rug from the estate collection of J.J. Nolthenius, Long Island, New York; as a side note, a vast majority of items from this same collection were donated to the Winterthur Museum, Delaware. The Rug's preceding history, is stated to have been residing within a prominent family estate in Albany, NY; their ancestors are considered to be one of the founding historical families of the Albany area. Genealogical Research Data shall accompany this Antique Rug, and a sampling of surnames include Cuyler, Gansevoort, and Ten Eyck. Size - 44" Length & 20" Width Colors - Red, White, Prussian & Navy Blue, Tan, & Cocoa Brown Backing - Appears to be a Burlap material Material - Wool circa - 1870's - 1880's Condition – Excellent for a Rug of this Age – There is approximately four (4) blocks in the center containing flea size areas where the wool is missing, and two or three flea size areas on the far left, and far right missing a few flea size bits of wool, but nothing that is visually displeasing overall. I would suggest having a Restoration Professional repair these small areas, as well as placing the rug on a stretcher or framing it, to preserve its long life for future generations, and from protecting it from various environmental elements. Combine all the exceptional elements of to include the Rug's Age, Fabulous Condition, Folk Art Design, plus Genealogical Research Data, and you have one truly outstanding work of art that would be an asset to the most refined collector, the discriminating decorator, or new ardent admirer starting their collection! * * * FREE SHIPPING to Buyer Within Lower 48 States * * * Please Wait Till Auction Has Ended to Receive Final Invoice from Seller * * * All Other Buyers, Please Email For Shipping Quote * * * Payment on this item shall be in the form of a bank issued Cashier's Check, or, Bank Wire Transfer for International Buyers.
